Our Story

We found it distressing to realize how many children of Jamaican descent don't know names like Bob Marley, Louise Bennett-Coverley, and Usain Bolt – each a leader in their field and each a proud Jamaican. Sadder still were those who know of Harry Belafonte, Grace Jones, and Colin Powell, but never realized that they’re also from Jamaican roots.
The reality is that as our community globalizes, Jamaica’s rich culture and heritage are getting lost. We at Irie Camp Jamaica find that to be unacceptable!
So we’ve established a fun, safe, caring environment for children to learn about Jamaican culture. Some are children of the island, while others are children of the diaspora. And we’re happy to invite them all to explore and embrace Jamaica's rich diversity, form a sense of Jamaican identity, and know the important contribution Jamaicans have been making to the world for hundreds of years.
We see Irie Camp Jamaica as an Island on an Island, providing campers with a full immersion in Jamaica’s cultural roots, promoting awareness and understanding of the island’s arts, music, language, and rich history. We’ll accomplish this through a committed and comprehensively trained staff, tapping into the resources of the community, and giving our campers and their families an experience they’ll never forget.

Our Mission
Children of the Jamaican diaspora are growing up to be citizens of the world and it is a wondrous thing. Over time, some of the culture and heritage that contribute to this global citizenry gets lost. The mission of Irie Camp Jamaica is to provide a fun, safe, caring environment for children to learn about Jamaican culture. We encouraged all children to explore and embrace Jamaica's rich diversity, but our primary purpose is to help children of the Jamaican diaspora form their sense of identity in full view of their heritage.
Our Vision
Irie Camp Jamaica (ICJ) provides campers with a full immersion in Jamaica’s cultural roots, promoting awareness and understanding of the island’s arts, music, language, and rich history. ICJ accomplishes this through committed and trained staff, tapping into the resources of the community, and giving our customers the full value of every dollar spent.
