IRIE Camp Jamaica Needs Your Support!
Bob Marley once said, “In this great future, you can’t forget your past.”
This is the concept that gave birth to Irie Camp Jamaica, the first-ever summer camp focusing exclusively on exposing thousands of children to a Jamaica they don’t realize actually still exists.
These children of the Jamaican Diaspora have been raised abroad. They see their parents absorbed into American and English societies, and think playing Candy Crush on their cell phone is entertainment. Games like Dandy Shandy, S-T-O-P, and Bull Inna Pen don’t exist in their world. Children on the island are losing the value of their birthright as well.
We refuse to let that go on!
As of summer 2018, Irie Camp Jamaica has been providing campers with opportunities to surround themselves in the richness of Jamaica through authentic cultural experiences. Hosted at the St. Hilda's Diocesan High School campus in the hills of Brown’s Town, St. Ann (about 45 minutes from Ocho Rios, 90 minutes from the Sangsters International Airport in Montego Bay), Irie Camp Jamaica has established a safe place to explore and be all-in for making Jamaican memories for a lifetime.
Our fun and interactive programs ensure immersion into Jamaican culture, arts, music, and language for children ages 6-17, and provide a deeper connection to that special something that makes Jamaicans so IRIE.
We’re presently gathering the resources needed to increase our reach and expose these children to the Jamaican heritage that gives us our swagger when we go overseas. Here’s how you can be a part of Jamaica’s future, making sure our children don’t forget their past.
